چکیده
Clay, as a rock term, describes a soft, loose, earthy material containing particles with an average grain size of less than than 0.004 mm (4 mm) in the Wentworth grain size scale and less than 0.002 mm (2 mm) in most soil investigations. Clay is composed mostly of clay minerals, but may also contain quartz, feldspar, carbonates, ferruginous material, and other non-clay materials. All clays, apart from flint clay, can be made plastic when mixed with a small quantity of water. That is, they can be moulded into various shapes that harden when dried.

The composition and origin of Ghana medicine clays
The mineral, organic and elemental composition of medicine clays from three shrines in the Tong Hills in northern Ghana (Gbankil, Kusanaab, and Yaane) are assessed to ascertain what additives they might contain and the implications for their recognition, for example in archaeological contexts. These are clays that are widely used for healing purposes being perceived efficacious in curing multip...
متن کاملInfluence of the mineralogical composition on the self-potential response to advection of KCl concentration fronts through sand
10 11 We measured the self-potential (SP) response to advective transport of KCl 12 concentration fronts through two laboratory-scale sand-bodies with different 13 mineralogical composition. In pure quartz sand, the amplitude and polarity of the SP 14 signals agreed with a previously published model. In sand containing 3 % potassic 15 feldspars and 1 % micas and clays, the shape of the SP respo...
متن کاملMicrostructure and chemical changes of sepiolite and vermiculite clays on the effect of elements adsorption
One of the applicable methods to control the pollution of heavy metals is the use of an adsorbent mineral. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of Nickel and Zinc elements on microstructure properties of sepiolite and vermiculite clay minerals. To address the absorption experiment studies, four treatments (vermiculite, vermiculite + sand soil, sepiolite and sepiolite + sand soi...
متن کاملEvaluation of the medicinal use of clay minerals as antibacterial agents.
Natural clays have been used to heal skin infections since the earliest recorded history. Recently our attention was drawn to a clinical use of French green clay (rich in Fe-smectite) for healing Buruli ulcer, a necrotizing fasciitis ('flesh-eating' infection) caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans. These clays and others like them are interesting as they may reveal an antibacterial mechanism that co...

High accumulations of phytoplankton species that produce toxins are referred to as harmful algal blooms (HABs). HABs represent one of the most important sources of contamination in marine environments, as well as a serious threat to public health, fisheries, aquaculture-based industries, and tourism. Therefore, methods effectively controlling HABs with minimal impact on marine ecology are requi...
